Congratulations to Coleman Parlee on receiving student of the month for June 2016. Coleman has had a great start to his Ju Jitsu, competing in the Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu National Championships, performing to the best of his ability on the little knowledge he had. Coleman will be shortly going back home to Canada for a few months so will enjoy time with family and little brother Logan.
During the month of June, we practiced a variety of techniques in preparation for the gradings which are taking place in the first week of July. The class has been learning a variety of throws, dropping reverse body drop, shoulder throw and a normal body drop. All of these throws can have different starts and finishes depending on the attack.
We went over a rear naked choke and again reminding the students through questions and answering the safety when applying these chokes. They would practice using both arms so they were confident with each side. This is one technique that does not require a great deal of strength and if performed correctly would get you into a whole lot of trouble. This is only used for the junior students and is not permitted in the infant class as some of these techniques are a little too advanced for their young minds…
We have also been learning a few ground hold techniques, scarf hold, shoulder hold and a figure of four –arm-lock. Some of the young students have been getting a little confused with their lefts and rights but this sometimes carries on as they get older. A few little reference points on their uniform, helps them on their way. It’s been a fabulous month so keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you all in July!
On Sunday 22nd May 2016 Ishin Ryu staged the Children’s Championships. Ellen-Ann Hallam entered into the infant competition, winning a fantastic bronze position. Well-done Ellen, some fantastic fighting. We had Joshua Hanton, Logan and Coleman Parlee entering in the junior category with Logan Parlee winning bronze as well. Unfortunately, the rest were unsuccessful at getting in the top three places but had some amazing fights and experience. I think with the knowledge that they have gained this time will be a whole lot better if they wish to compete next year. Well-done to you all, very proud indeed!
GRADINGS NEXT MONTH – Good luck to all, don’t panic and try your hardest and you will do fine. Bring your water bottle and foot wear. Go to the toilet before class as gradings will be a fast pace. After gradings we have our fun lesson and presentations. I have a few different activities lined up so will be a very exciting lesson. After the fun lesson, parents are invited to take photos and videos of their children celebrating receiving their new belts.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
