Welcome back everyone! I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas break and a fantastic New Year! I’m sure many of you have made some new year’s resolutions and I wish the very best of luck in trying to accomplish them.
With January flying past as if it were a long weekend, I would like to say congratulations to Oscar Robinson on receiving student of the month for January 2016. Oscar has made a fantastic start to the year and really trying to push himself forward.
I would like to welcome Logan Parlee to the class; Logan has had fun learning some new skills and with only a few lessons under his belt has lots to learn
During the month of January I decided to start getting the children ready for the Children’s Championships, which is scheduled for Sunday 22nd May 2016. We started off slow with a few hip exercises. The first exercise that we practiced was “bridging,” enabling yourself to move your hips when fighting on the ground is an essential part.
Next was “hip escapes,” moving your hips combined with bridging enabled you to create some space and with a few extra skills would get you out of some tricky situations that you might find yourself in.
The youngest of the class will need a little longer to move them onto the next stage which is called “Shrimping,” combining the first two exercises and moving yourself down the mat. This is a fantastic exercise that will help the children create those muscles needed for the job. The older students in the class grasped the exercise quicker but over the month all have made good progress. Also in the month we worked on fitness, etiquette, standing and kneeling grappling. Well done to you all, I look forward to performing these drills effectively each month so they can be initiated instantaneously.
On Saturday 9th January 2016, Kevin Pell Sensei (Founder & Chief instructor, Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu) staged the 26th Anniversary dinner in Borehamwood, Herts. It was a fantastic evening where all the Ishin Ryu families and friends celebrated another year of success! I would like to say a massive thank you to Kevin Pell Sensei for making the evening so pleasant and enjoyable.
I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Kevin Pell Sensei for awarding me with my Sandan (3rd Dan) totally out of the blue but I am deeply honored to receive it.
I would also like to say massive congratulations to Andy Herbert Sensei receiving his Yondan (4th Dan) and Trevor Steward Sensei receiving his Godan (5th Dan) and to all the other instructors receiving their awards. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year and can’t wait to we all meet again!
Next month I look forward to getting these drills polished and working on some stand up…
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…
Look forward to seeing you all in February.
