Nice shoulder arm lock Katie-Lee Shannon!

Hello and welcome to February’s monthly report, I found that January started off slow so decided to keep the student of the month the same for February. Oscar Robinson who continues to work hard every lesson was awarded student of the month again for February 2016 — fantastic effort Oscar!

Congratulations again to Oscar Robinson receiving student of the month February 2016

Congratulations again to Oscar Robinson receiving student of the month February 2016

We have had a fantastic month with a few minor issues but nothing that couldn’t be corrected. During half term week we had a problem with not been able to get into the sports hall to lay down our mats due to the gates that are normally open being locked so we were unable to get the trailer in — this was not a major issue as we could still get into the hall to teach the children other techniques. After class we sorted out how this come about and was assured that it will not happen again. Thank you to the parents for being so understanding and supporting the club as always.

February was just as productive as January but with a lot more advancement with the students techniques. This month the students have been practicing balance breaking, bridging, hip switches, hip escapes, shrimping, bridging with a partner and escaping when someone has got you in the full mounted position to follow it up with a hold down.

During each lesson of the month we have been making advancements with the children’s hip exercises with some of the children needing a little more help than others but even in the little advancements that they make, they are developing muscle groups that they were not use to using before. We have multiple changes of partners as some are a little heavier than others and to mix everything up, I like to get the students to practice on me so that they truly do have to use technique rather than strength.

With all the children learning each part they were able to combine it together. This has taken many weeks but as each week goes on they learn a little more and get more proficient at it. We have also been doing lots of grappling to see if what we have been learning has truly paid off. Would they be able to make space when they have been pinned down? Would they be able to use their hips properly when trying to turn their partner over? It’s been some really good weeks and the time has now come to see if they can put it to practice when we have the gradings next month.

Next month we look forward the children’s gradings when the students have to perform the techniques that they been learning over the past few months. If successful, they will have presentations the following week when parents, families, friends can take photos of their son/daughter receiving their new belt and certificate.

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

The Sport Centre is still not quite ready but our location is still great.

Look forward to seeing you all in March!
