I would like to congratulate Joshua Hanton from the Infant Class and Louis Ocal from the Junior Class for being awarded the Student of the Month for March 2014. Well done guys – keep up the hard work!
At the beginning of March we had a visit from the Honbu dojo in the guise of Keith Gallick. It was great to see you Keith and great for the adult students to see others from within the greater Ishin Ryu family!
We also had three new juniors try out free lessons; they are really enjoying themselves at the moment so I’ll let you know in April how they are getting on. We had a busy month as it was gradings and presentations but I will tell you all about that in a separate report…
During March, we got infant and junior grades practicing balancing drills all to help with their throwing techniques. We practiced balancing on one foot and leaning over whilst hopping and pushing each other. We also tried crouching down and doing the same thing. It was great fun to see who managed not to get pushed over!
We also tried a variety of different techniques at the beginning of lessons from handstand break falls to forward rolls over a kick shield, forward rolls over myself, and cartwheels into a back break fall. This was all in aid of trying to build confidence and get good body motor mechanics.
The adults had a little play with blindfolded grappling. This was the lesson when Keith from Honbu visited us, most of the adults soon realized that Keith could be a bit of a monster and not the easiest person to get off when he’s lying on you!!
March was a busy month but great to see the teenager and adult class so busy, well done everyone – I look forward to seeing you all on the tatami in April!
