The Teenagers started the month off with a nice warm-up and a practice of their breakfalls. A quick sip of water then they were straight into syllabus techniques. The gradings are next month so the more training we get the better everyone will be prepared. Andrew Holmes worked with me all the way through his white. Andrew is really making a step forward and has securely got his techniques in his mind. Although Andrew is only fourteen, he has no problem throwing me. Sonny Clarke and Joshua Ciannarella worked together towards their orange belt. They are both nearly up to scratch with everything they need. With a few weeks to go they will surely be ready. We then finished off the lesson with a good grapple!
The second week of the month Andrew Holmes and Joshua Ciannarella were unable to train due to not feeling very well. Linnet Bruce was unable to train as well due to a heavy workload which left Sonny Clarke in attendance. With Sonny competing in the Championships it gave us a great opportunity to practice. Sonny already towers over most and is only thirteen – good luck Sonny, I’m sure you will do great!
The third week of the month we had all in attendance. We had a quick recap about the championships before splitting up to go through syllabus. Everyone should be up to scratch for gradings next month, only the last few bits to tidy up. Linnet’s hip throws are getting really good and she has no problems chucking people about.
During the last lesson of the month, Keith Gallick visited the Wymondham Ju Jitsu club to help with the adults and Teenagers as the Wymondham leisure centre is being refurbished. With the mats being partitioned everyone could get on with training. Keith moved around the mat, switching partners and helped each group. Sonny Clarke was away this week during half term so will catch up training when he returns.
On the 17th May 2015, we had the British Championships and everyone was super excited for the day! The arena was all set up over the weekend and with all the referees arriving early Sunday morning for a quick briefing.
Sonny Clarke (Teenagers) and Joshua Ciannarella (Adult) entered into the competition. Sonny performed fantastic and was ranked British Champion within his weight division. Well done Sonny. There were lots of comments to Sonny’s performance and amazement that he is only thirteen.
Joshua was ranked third place and had a good variety of fights. He really did perform fantastic and gave every last bit of effort. Well done to the both of you, really proud.
Next month we have the Teenager and Adult gradings taking place, I would like to wish good luck to Andrew Holmes with his white belt and Sonny Clarke and Joshua Ciannarella with their orange belts.
