Amazing time at this year summer camp 2015

Amazing time at this year summer camp 2015

Just to let everyone know that the Thetford club has been invited to do a display at the Thetford massive Fun on Saturday 5th September. Our demonstration will be at 1pm and 3pm, weather permitting. This will be the biggest display that the Thetford club has done in Thetford for many years. I am really looking forward to showing the local people what Ishin Ryu is all about, and for the parents to see what their child can do.

Yet again August has been a busy month for all my students. The summer camp was one of the best ever since I started them many years ago. I have already got parents enrolling their children already for 2016.

Next year’s summer camp will be from MONDAY 8TH AUGUST TO FRIDAY 12TH AUGUST

As you can see by the photo they did some amazing things during the week long course. Many of the students have been away on their summer holidays, so the numbers in each class have been low.

Archie Curtis (Infant)

Archie Curtis (Infant)

Awesome month for Archie Curtis, for someone so young and only on his first belt I am always amazed at what he can do in the lesson. His confidence is growing all the time and he has no fear to try anything. Awarding him with student of the month was a complete pleasure, and to see how happy he was made my day.

Cruz Filippou (juniors)

Cruz Filippou (juniors)

It was an honour to present Cruz filippou with student of the month. Cruz has worked really hard and always helps me in the lessons with the infant class. I have so many wonderful students in the Saturday classes and Cruz is one of them. He is always respectful to me and gives it 100% during the lessons.

Kaysie & Hannah enjoying themselves

As you can see by the photo with Kaysie & Hannah there is always a lot of fun in the infant class. Kaysie is really starting to grow in so many ways, and is always great in making you smile. The infants have had a brilliant month even though the classes have been quieter. Welcome to new student Reagan Tomlin, who has settled in really quickly. They have had lots of fun learning the new escapes from a rear strangle and doing a straight arm lock. Plus over the weeks they have started to learn a body drop throw, which they have really surprised me on how quickly they have picked it up. Of course there has been plenty of time for fun and games.

As the junior class is so big, with many being away it has still be a good size class during August. It is amazing how quick the lesson goes, I know it is because they are so well behaved and are always keen to learn. They have really enjoyed doing the counters to a body drop. This always brings back memories for me as I did these back in November 2000, when I was the first ever student to attempt and achieve an Ishin Ryu black belt. I am always very proud that I am one of only five students in 25 years that has been successful.

The students have had the chance to use a new piece of equipment for when we do outrageous stunts, rolls and breakfalls with a difference. It has been amazing to witness what they have been able to do, and how much confidence they gain in doing things that sadly they are no longer allowed to do at school.

I love the fact that I can give children the opportunities that I had when I was at school, and how much fun PE could be when there are no restrictions due to health and safety. The plain fact is schools are too scared that they are going to be sued if a child gets hurt during their PE lessons.

How an information board should look like!

How an information board should look like!

As you can see by the photo, I have updated the information board with new photos of you guys training. Please take some time to have a look at the board, as it does take me a long time to do all the photos. I will also put any events that are coming up onto the board.

ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF; NEVER SAY I CAN’T DO THAT?

EVERYONE CAN ACHIEVE IN WHATEVER THEY WANT TO DO OR BECOME.

THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS YOU FROM ACHIEVING IS YOURSELF.

THE SMALLEST ACHIEVEMENT IS A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT.

THE MORE YOU TRAIN THE MORE YOU WILL SUCCEED.

PLAYING ON THE XBOX STAYING AT HOME WILL NOT HELP YOU DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS IN WHATEVER ACTIVITY YOU DO.

TEN YEARS AGO I BROKE MY NECK IN A CAR CRASH AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO DO MARTIAL ARTS AGAIN.

DID I GIVE IN; YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN MAKE YOURSELF A SUCCESS.

Well done to everyone for all their hard work last month. I would like to wish any of my students that are moving up to high school in September all the best. It will be a very exciting time for you all. As you will always hear from me and your parents, school is the best time in your life so enjoy every minute of it.

One final reminder to all my students, please can you visit our website as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the last month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or are in a photo. Plus you can comment on all the reports and share them to your Facebook pages. The website is there for everyone to keep up to date with what is happening and any future dates or events that will be happening, all these can be found on the events calendar and the grading calendar.

If you are on Facebook, please can you do a friend request to me, so if I need to tell the parents something quickly I can contact you , and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

Many thanks,
Trevor Steward Sensei
