Students proudly show off the new Shoman for the Thetford Dojo

The new Shoman has arrived at the Thetford dojo. I have been working on this project for some months now and I am so glad it has worked out. The quality of the portable banner is amazing; it also looks very professional and gives the public an insight to what we teach. The amount of times I have heard parents and children things like “look mum they are doing judo or karate.” So I decided it was time to have a customised 8ft by 8ft of the latest banner fabric with our branded logo and information on at all my dojos.

Hannah Twells (Infant)

Hannah Twells (Infant)

Congratulations to Hannah Twells who was awarded Student of the month. Hannah is a great student in every way and puts up a good fight against the boys in her class. I am looking forward to her competing at this year’s British Championship she will be one to watch.

The infants have been working hard, like all my other dojos, on throws and hold-downs for the championship on Sunday 17th May. They all work really well as a club, especially when it comes to the team events. Benjamin Twite is doing exceptionally well, and his confidence is growing all the time. The best of luck to all the infants at the championships.

Kieran Steward (Junior)

Kieran Steward (Junior)

Congratulations to my son Kieran Steward who was presented with Student of the Month. As an instructor I am very privileged to have the opportunity to teach my children real self-defence and to have them with me at my dojos. I am very proud of everything Kieran has achieved since he started at the age of 4 yrs.

This year he will be competing to retain his title of British Champion for the fifth year running. Like all the parents I will be so nervous on the day and will be very proud with whatever he achieves.

Juniors working on fitness drills for the championship

Juniors working on fitness drills for the championship

The juniors have had a brilliant month working on all their throws, holds, locks & submissions for the championship. They are developing some awesome takedowns that will be brilliant if they are able to pull them off. Last year quite a few of them become British champions, it would be great if they can do the same for their club. I would like to welcome George Atkin who has transferred from another dojo of mine. I know he will settle in well as he has friends that have been training in the club for a while.

Jordan & Lily receiving their progress card medals

Congratulations to Jordan Filippou & Lily Cumming who got presented with medals for their progress cards. It is always great to reward students for their hard work and to see them so happy to receive one of our customised medals. Every now and again I get a student ask if they have to give it back, and are shocked when I say that it is theirs to keep.

The third class is doing well with a mixture of juniors and teenagers. Arthur and Charlie are doing brilliantly with their training for the championship. They are both ones to watch this year, as they both are developing throws that normally we only teach the adults. The teenagers are working on their syllabus to hopefully grade in July. It is great to see the girls doing well and giving the boys a hard time when it comes to the physical side of training.

A final good luck to all the students that are competing at this year’s British Championship.
