Amazing time at this year summer camp 2015

Amazing time at this year summer camp 2015

Yet again August has been a busy month for all my students. The summer camp was one of the best ever since I started them many years ago. I have already got parents enrolling their children already for 2016.

Next year’s summer camp will be from MONDAY 8TH AUGUST TO FRIDAY 12TH AUGUST.

As you can see by the photo they did some amazing things during the week long course. Many of the students have been away on their summer holidays, so the numbers in each class have been low.

James Guerin (infant)

James Guerin (infant)

Congratulations to James Guerin, for all his amazing work during August. James is very quiet, but always gives it 100% during the lessons and really is a quick learner. Sometimes I use him as an example of how to do things in front of the class. I look forward to seeing James develop his skills in the future.

Zak Mitchell (Junior)

Zak Mitchell (Junior)

Zak has always been a very respectful and dedicated student. This year at the summer camp he was awarded a Best Achievement Trophy. Zak is one of those few students’ that at the end of each lesson shakes my hand and thanks me for training him. Some of my other students could learn that it doesn’t take much to show some respect to their instructor. Sadly in life, respect to your elders has been lost which is a real shame.

As usual it has been a steady month, with cardio training and techniques for their next grading in November, which is always scary as it means Christmas is not too far away. They have also been learning body drop throw for their next grading. Plus a few counters to the body drop, which they have really enjoyed doing. It is always great seeing their minds working so hard to counter the technique and take their partner to the ground so quickly. Well done to all the infants for a good months training.

The juniors have also been working on the body drop, with a few more technical counters to the throw. The one they really liked doing was body drop into volley drop. This brought back many memories as I did these for my black belt grading back in November 2000. Wow I can’t believe it has been 16 years since I was the first student to attempt the Ishin Ryu Black Belt.

The juniors have been trying a few rear strangle techniques that I have developed over the years. One especially they loved doing was the “ALIEN” technique. They really seem to concentrate when it comes to this one and there are plenty of laughs as they are doing it. Well done to all the juniors for a good month, and well done to all the ones that took part in this year’s summer camp.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a few things that might help all my students with their training.

ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF; NEVER SAY I CAN’T DO THAT?

EVERYONE CAN ACHIEVE IN WHATEVER THEY WANT TO DO OR BECOME.

THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS YOU FROM ACHIEVING IS YOURSELF.

THE SMALLEST ACHIEVEMENT IS A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT.

THE MORE YOU TRAIN THE MORE YOU WILL SUCCEED.

PLAYING ON THE XBOX STAYING AT HOME WILL NOT HELP YOU DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS IN WHATEVER ACTIVITY YOU DO.

TEN YEARS AGO I BROKE MY NECK IN A CAR CRASH AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO DO MARTIAL ARTS AGAIN.

DID I GIVE IN; YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN MAKE YOURSELF A SUCCESS.

Well done to everyone for all their hard work last month. I would like to wish any of my students that are moving up to high school in September all the best. It will be a very exciting time for you all. As you will always hear from me and your parents, school is the best time in your life so enjoy every minute of it.

One final reminder to all my students, please can you visit our website as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the last month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or are in a photo. Plus you can comment on all the reports and share them to your Facebook pages. The website is there for everyone to keep up to date with what is happening and any future dates or events that will be happening, all these can be found on the events calendar and the grading calendar.

If you are on Facebook, please can you do a friend request to me, so if I need to tell the parents something quickly I can contact you , and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

Many thanks,
Trevor Steward Sensei
