I would like to say some big congratulations to the students of the month. In the infant class it was awarded to Joao Sausa who has progressed really well, demonstrating good forward rolls. In the junior class it was awarded to Samuel Gilbert for gritting his teeth and working the best he possible can. Well-done boys!
The new black uniform is looking fabulous and with most of the students starting to purchase them. You can really see the quality in the material and I’m sure you will see plenty of life from them. March was a busy month as we had the students first national grading of the year and any last minute revision leading up to it.
On Wednesday 9th March 2016, students started to arrive ready for their grading, with the same question that repeatedly gets asked,” Sensei, why are you wearing that suit” you straight away see the student get a little nervous because I’m dressed different; they also want to do well and move up a level in grades. A little pep talk before we start to remind them what is expected of them. We always start with normal formalities, which they get tested on, then warm-up shortly followed by breakfalls and fitness tests.
After this was completed we move onto the techniques that they have been practicing for the grading. To make it a little more interesting we amalgamate fitness into the grading. The more senior belts within the group had random fitness tests thrown in as they are somewhat fitter than others and is needed to get the most out of that student. Near the end of the grading the senior belts are pulled out in front of the class to perform extra work; the higher the belt the harder it becomes… Well-done to Lauren Godfrey, Kevin Myrta for giving every thing they had, right to the very end.
The gradings were very successful so the following week we had class games, they work very hard practicing for months leading up so I award them with a fun lesson. After games I leave time allocated for class presentations when parents, relatives & friends bring along their cameras to record this special occasion. At the very end of the presentation the students throw their old belts into the air in joy of success.
The next couple of weeks we have been working on shoulder throw and learning how to turn in, another throw brings more excitement. We also have Easter holidays, so I know some will be away but we plan to continue and drill these techniques.
We have the Children’s Championships fast approaching scheduled for Sunday 22nd May 2016, if you want to know any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me or just speak to me in class.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
