Congratulations to Michael Valimamade (Infant class) and Amouree Wellington (Junior class) receiving student of the month for June 2016. Both boys work extremely hard and are athletically fit. They generally keep going and going, like most children at their age. Well-done boys
During the month of June, we practiced a variety of techniques in preparation for the gradings which are taking place in the first week of July. The class has been learning a variety of throws, dropping reverse body drop, shoulder throw and a normal body drop. All of these throws can have different starts and finishes depending on the attack.
We went over a rear naked choke and again reminding the students through questions and answering the safety when applying these chokes. They would practice using both arms so they were confident with each side. This is one technique that does not require a great deal of strength and if performed correctly would get you into a whole lot of trouble. This is only used for the junior students and is not permitted in the infant class as some of these techniques are a little too advanced for their young minds…
We have also been learning a few ground hold techniques, scarf hold, shoulder hold and a figure of four –arm-lock. Some of the young students have been getting a little confused with their lefts and rights but this sometimes carries on as they get older. A few little reference points on their uniform, helps them on their way. It’s been a fabulous month so keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you all in July!
On Sunday 22nd May 2016 Ishin Ryu staged the Children’s Championships. Lauren Godfrey and Archie Broomfield enter into the junior competition, Lauren won bronze position. Well-done Lauren, some fantastic fighting. Unfortunately, Archie was unsuccessful at getting in the top three places but had some amazing fights and experience. Billie-Jo Shannon and Linnden Turner entered into the Teenager category. Billie-Jo won 1st place and became British champion in her weight category. Linnden had some tough fights, against some giants but never gave up and achieved bronze place. Well-done to you all, immensely proud!
During the month of June, we also had the teenager gradings staged at Honbu. Students from the Bishops dojo gathered together to attempt their next belt. Chloe Gilbert, Billie-Jo Shannon, Courteney Shannon and Linnden Turner gave it their all and were successful at moving to the next level in their training. Well-done again. For a full report on the day, please see Sensei Sheila’s report.
GRADINGS NEXT MONTH – Good luck to all, don’t panic and try your hardest and you will do fine. Bring your water bottle and foot wear. Go to the toilet before class as gradings will be a fast pace. After gradings we have our fun lesson and presentations. I have a few different activities lined up so will be a very exciting lesson. After the fun lesson, parents are invited to take photos and videos of their children celebrating receiving their new belts.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…
