Congratulations to Amy Gilbert (infants) and Billie-Jo Shannon (juniors) on receiving Student of the Month for June 2015. Amy is getting a lot more comfortable with her senior grade role in the class, and Billie-Jo ensures the class is lined up correctly and helps around a lot. Well done to the both of you!
During the month of June, all effort was geared towards getting everyone ready for class gradings on Wednesday the 8th July. The infant class have been working hard on their escapes from being grabbed either from the front or behind. The junior class worked on palm heel strikes one through to five and demonstrating a controlled strike (Ensuring they did not make contact with the face).
At the beginning of June, when the infant class were working with their techniques, Kevin Myrta who got to the class a little earlier came on to the mat and helped out with his fellow young students- well-done Kevin! During, the rest of the class we practiced the remaining techniques needed whist making games to give the children lots of repetition but having fun whilst doing so.
The junior class started the beginning of the month off by performing relay fitness tests; paired in teams they would compete against each other to perform a variety of exercises. There is some really good competitive students in the class who want to push themselves hard to make their team win and not get lumbered with doing extra fitness for losing… After a quick water break, the students then paired up together to go over their techniques.
The remaining weeks of the month we started work on getting both classes lined up in a straight line to either perform exercises or techniques. New burpees were introduced into the class, which went across all classes including the teenagers and adults. The new modification was to ensure that the exercise was carried out correctly. After doing these for the next few months, everyone will soon adapt and not worry at all!
Linnden Turner from the teenager class has been working on his yellow belt syllabus. Linnden has shown great dedication to his learning and continues to give maximum effort whilst at class.
On Saturday the 13th June it was the teenager gradings and I picked Linnden up just after 8.00am, with him being quietly confident. We arrived at the Honbu Dojo (Caston Ju Jitsu club) where he was met by fellow students getting ready for the kit inspection. With the kit inspection going really well it was time to get changed into their Gi’s for the Ishin Ryu bare footed run, which they all performed very well!
It was then time to get cleaned up and then straight into the dojo for the white belts.
Linnden was going for his yellow so had a little time to compose and go over anything whilst waiting.
All the white belts were successful so now it was Linnden’s turn to try to shine and show everyone what he could do. Linnden smashed it, considering the amount of heart problems and troubles that he has had whilst growing up in life! Linnden, who has lost lots of weight, and continues to get fitter and stronger.
It makes me very proud to see such a transformation in a boy that has had to work so hard.
CONGRATULATIONS LINNDEN YOU EARNED THIS!
Next month we look forward to the infant and junior class gradings taking place when if successful will be rewarded with a games session before class presentations.
We also have summer holidays fast approaching, please note that we will be open for Ju Jitsu for a few weeks over this period but will have to close for three weeks whilst the caretaker is away.
The following weeks there will be no Ju Jitsu classes:
29th July 2015
5th August 2015
12th August 2015
I will let you know if we are able to perform make up lessons for the time we are closed.
Well-done everyone on a great month!
