Well-done Katie-Lee!

Well-done Katie-Lee!

During the month of September, I was delighted to present Katie-Lee Shannon with an award for completing her star card. This doesn’t happen very often so a bit more time was taken to get a plaque made up for her. Katie-Lee trains twice a week and like myself, a little petite doesn’t let that get in the way of things. Katie-Lee works very hard in class, working well with others and tries to beat as many other students as she can when performing fitness.

With September now complete, everyone is back at school and in their routine, that includes Jiu Jutsu. Summer is always a little thin on the grounds but gave those that continue their training a more thorough lesson. September has been great for the club; new students are giving their first lesson “FREE” to give them a good feel to the class without costing their parents a penny.

Congratulations to the students of the month, September 2016

Congratulations to the students of the month, September 2016

Student of the month this time around was awarded to Sarah Greer in the infant class and Dominic Warmuz in the junior class. Both are very enthusiastic in class and love their Jiu Jutsu

The new black uniform is settling in well with all the students and the parents, (being a parent myself I understand how difficult it can be to keep those white Gi’s “white”) the new Gi is technically designed so much better than the previous one. Made from polycotton, it gives the user a good blend of polyester and cotton. The cotton has good moisture absorbing properties and the polyester has non-ironing properties which help the parents when it comes to those ironing chores. That wasn’t enough for Kevin Pell Sensei (Founder and chief instructor) he wanted to make it that much stronger so decided to have it triple stitched to make the whole suite tougher and finished off with an embroidered logo on the back.

Lots have been happening over the course of the month with medals and awards been giving out but as for training, we have been working on a variety of techniques. Those classical school yard bully techniques where you’re enticed to shake hands with a bully only to find out that he’s not been too nice and wants to hurt you that little bit more. So we worked on a few handshake moves, varied depending on classes. We then took it a little stage further when they managed to get you into a headlock and try to get the students to interact a little bit and act out as a bully.

Fitness is always on the gender as it keeps everyone fit and healthy. Blindfolds came out again whilst practicing kneeling grappling to see how everyone copes when you are giving a little bit of a handicap. It’s been a great month and good to see you all back at training.

Please keep practicing your belt tying techniques and if you can already tie your belt, make it a little harder by closing your eyes or try tying a belt on someone else. I look forward to seeing your demonstrations in class.

Teenagers have been working hard on their syllabus. Linnden Turner has been working with his older brother to fine tune everything. The girls have worked hard even when it came to casualty drags and fireman’s carries. A hard test for them – they know they have to work hard to complete.

I love the black Gi. Well Done Soke Kevin Pell I as a parent think they are spot on!
I see the diffence so much in my daughter from April to now she has confidence and pride in herself and her club. It was the best choice putting Sarah in to these classes.
She was so so proud to be student of the month.
Well done Katie-lee on getting your award!
    Looking forward to the future.

    • Osu Rosie, your daughter is performing so well – giving 100% effort to all that she does. It is such a pleasure to have her at the club, Onwards and upwards…
