Hold that bag Gavin Margrie!

Hold that bag Gavin Margrie!

Osu, welcome back everyone. It’s been a busy start to the year. with February seeing a couple of events already. One being A.T.W (Advance training wing) – senior grades only I’m afraid. This was re-scheduled from last month and saw Senior grades travel to headquarters to get rid of any lingering cobwebs trying to creep in, Soke made sure that he kept us on our toes and gave us a good old traditional training session which left us with a good sweat on. “Osu,” – thank you Soke!

The other event that we had this month been the first aid course, which saw twenty-four students attend this fantastic one-day event. Soke gladly used Honbu to stage this event, and we brushed up on those all important skills so we can bring first class care to our students should any problems arise.

It is also a requirement for any student wanting to attempt their brown belt that they must have a valid first aid qualification. It was a great day and was positive that everyone went away with some valuable skills.

As March is on the horizon it’s now time to start thinking about getting your kit ready for your next belt. I know we have gone over it in class but don’t want anyone to start panicking. If you start now you will have enough time to get your stuff little by little. Come see me in class or contact me and I will be happy to go through anything your not sure of.

During the month the adult students at the Bishops have started learning those all-important techniques for their next belt weather they were going for white/red belt or yellow belt. The new white/red belts have done a refresher on that belt to see how much has been forgotten. So easy to think that you have passed that belt and you will not get tested again. That is not the case and each week you should be performing previous belts before you start work on new ones, just to keep everything up to scratch…

We have done rounds of bag work, milling to the face, power punches to the body, all of which is new for some but great experience.

We have done rounds of hip throws and each time we changed partners we would do 10 by 10. Sounds quite exhausting and it is when you’re a low belt. Being thrown is one thing, getting back up over and over again is another? It’s a fantastic way of keeping fit and getting the body conditioned. We have lovely mats at the Bishops and they give a lovely soft landing – not quite the same at Honbu… lol

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

Look forward to seeing you all in March
