Good to see everyone back at training after having a few weeks off in August due to the caretaker being away. Well done to all those that attended Honbu whilst there were closures – I’m sure Soke, Sensei Andy, Sheila and everyone at Honbu made you feel very welcome!
This month most students handed their Gi tops into headquarters to get the back of their collars embroidered with the name “Ishin Ryu” and only costing £6. This meant that most trained in t-shirts – not a major problem and everyone dealt with it easily.
I would like to mention Sempai Jack O’Brien who trains at the Borehamwood Jiu Jitsu club for signing up for an Ultra White Collar Boxing event and committed 8 weeks of his time to train and get himself ready to compete against another entry with the same weight. All this was in aid to raise money for Cancer Research and am delighted to inform you that Sempai Jack made over £260. A courageous effort, well-done Sempai Jack!
Senior belts also attended ATW. Students from all of the dojos gathered together at Honbu to ensure that our techniques and performance was kept up to scratch. Any new alterations that Soke wanted changing and not forgetting a good sweat from multiple rounds of throwing, casualty drags, syllabus work and anything else that can be thrown in. We then finished off with food which is standard format after this sort of training. “Train together, eat together” good to see everyone again!
As you can see it’s been a very busy month with lots happening but the guys still gave many hours of continuous training to work towards their next belt. Fitness as always is something we like to work on, whether it was circuits or a leg workout, they all give maximum effort. We have had enjoyment performing casualty drags and fireman carries. My mats have more friction than the Honbu mats but will make life easier when you need to perform on a grading day.
The NEW Ishin Ryu Jiu Jitsu Gi is nearly finished, working with Spartan Martial Arts and Sports Suppliers this Gi will be tested by the black belts to see if it will stand up to the test. Hopefully October/November a full report will be given.
Headquarters have new Ishin Ryu Jiu Jitsu bag gloves back in stock, the cost of these bag gloves has gone up slightly since last time but still at a fantastic price of £25. If you require a pair, please phone headquarters or alternatively see me at the club. Look forward to seeing you all in October for a fantastic months training!
