After teenagers are finished there is 30-minute gap where any admin can be sorted out before the class starts at 7:30pm. At the beginning of the month we were a few down to various issues, Stephanie Wilson had an infection in her throat, Matthew Broomfield was working, Linnet Bruce had her daughter’s birthday and new student Mark Angel was un-well. With only a few of us Devlinn Turner lined the class up – we then continued by spending the next 10-15 mins going over questions about the federation and possible questions that might come up.
Moved straight into warm-up doing fart-legging and fireman carries around the mat. Asked all to perform their belt fitness test as their warm-up. Helped Rosie and Chris with Kubaton techniques. Devlinn Turner and Gavin Margrie worked together. Devlinn was a little unsure if doing sweeping loin correct — so gave a little help.
Lesson ending so we finished off with bag work, milling, kicking and a little fitness thrown in. Line-up to finish and a quick reminder about Anniversary dinner fast approaching — tickets available…
The following week, adults jumped onto the mat and started to warm themselves up. Great to see Matt Broomfield back on the mat after having a couple of weeks off due to work commitments. Mark Angel are new adult student is settling in well with the rest of the group. New student Mark, worked with Christopher and Stephanie on their white belt whilst Gavin, Devlinn and Matt went together to go over Orange. Rosie went with myself to go over her yellow belt – Good spirit, Kiai and enthusiasm. Working well just needs a little more control. Time for bag work and use those new gloves that have just been purchased, strong effort from all.
Near the end of the month I decided to take the whole class from white belt to orange belt – In pairs, the class demonstrated their techniques. For students that were higher than white belt, this was a great revision and see if anyone had forgotten those important skills. This was like a mock grading and highlighted any problems which may come up – a good all-around effort. New student Mark got a good insight into what is expected.
December is fast approaching and remember all grading applications will need to be handed in the first week of December. One last thing, don’t forget Anniversary dinner, tickets, hotel booking, Tuxedo’s, Ball Gown dresses – will be a fabulous event 21st January 2017. Any problems, please let me know ASAP… See you all soon!
