May at Ishin Ryu Stornoway has been one of anticipation as we prepare for the BJJ summer camp with 6x European Champion, Joao Santos. In order to prepare, we have been working on both our physical conditioning and our rolling techniques.
This has involved taking many of our traditional practices and applying them either on the ground or in full inversion. In particular, Kirsty has been outstanding taking a downward arm-bar, and transitioning to a shoulder lock from the rear-mount.
Similarly, April has been doing well on breaking the full-guard in order to take the back and transition to a rear naked choke.
At the beginning of the month, we were joined by James Coggs, who was visiting from the mainland. A seasoned exponent of BJJ, training out of The Griphouse, James has a great ground game
Next month we’ll continue on our ground work as we prepare for Joao Santos who will be running the BJJ camp from 27th June through to 2nd July.
Finally, please note that Guy Ramsay will be returning to the island and will running a Griphouse seminar from 11th-13th July. Last year’s sessions were absolutely amazing, and we were honoured to be joined by World Muay Thai Champion, Hilary Mack. This year promises to be no less outstanding, so please confirm your place as soon as possible.
I look forward to seeing you all next month.
