April has been another busy month at the Stornoway Ju Jitsu Club, with another new start in the form of Eilidh Johnstone. Eilidh joined us for our Strike-A-Thon night in Ness during March, where we raised money for the community run sports centre. She now has the bug and has really thrown herself into training.
The club has been focussing on fitness as we move between standup and our ground-game. All of our techniques have a street applicable self defence aspect, and then transition to competition based groundwork.
Jason has been doing really well, transitioning away from his sport based judo techniques into some lovely wrist and elbow locks. April Munro has really been developing her ground work, and in particular her guillotine choke.
Kirsty’s development curve continues to be measured in right angles, with some fantastic sparring work and great attention to detail, particularly in her Figure-Four locks. Rob, another new start from March, has been really getting stuck into arm bars, and doing really well in sparring.
Finally John continues to impress, using a great combination of great striking and grappling in his sparring.
In May, we’ll be focussing on shoulder locks, figure-four ankle locks, and tactical striking.
I look forward to seeing you all next month.
