This term student of the month has gone to Owen Keenlyside in the infant class and Joshua Al-Dakkak in the junior class. They are always working extremely hard, and Owen being one of the highest grades in the class the lower grades look up to him and it shows in the way they act in class. Joshua is a very nice student to teach and is always willing to help and work with anyone and everyone in the class. I could not be more proud of the both of them, well done you two keep up the good work.
The infant class has been learning the basic moves from how to breakfall and learning their left and right-hand fighting stances. With a lot to take in the class have been moving very fast learning so much in a short space of time. With a lineup and game at the start of the lesson the class love getting ready to do their breakfalls with front rolling being the best breakfall to do.
With the infant class, we have also been doing a lot of groundwork from holding your partner down how to escape from someone pinning you down. This has been building up from a basic hold to them escaping and pinning them down, we have also made it into a game and everyone is learning why having fun. Hugh Stark really enjoys playing the games and has been practicing with his older brother and it shows as he works really well and gets all the hold downs right.
We have also been practicing some self-defence from someone grabbing your wrists or shoulders trying to pull you around and also defence from someone punching or kicking you.
The wrist grabs have been going down really well and to show that they work I get the kids to do it on me, and I’m only a little bit bigger than them.
This term all the junior class have been working so hard from learning some new locks and hold downs and also learning some interesting blocks. Everything we did at the beginning of the term ties into the end of year grading with the students showing how to put an arm lock on and also defend them self’s from a bully whether it is them kicking punching or grabbing. The students have been having loads of fun with this, with one in the pair being the bully and the over being bullied.
With the grading’s coming up fast all the students have been working hard on their moves for the grading. With the lower grades just going over the basic fighting stances, front strangles and ground holds – I know everyone will do fine.
I would like to say a big well done to all the students having passed their grading’s. This has been an amazing year for all the students. They have been working so hard getting stuck into everything I have shown them. I am so proud of all the kids and I look forward to seeing them all in the new year, for lots more amazing Ju Jitsu.
I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year and I look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year.
