St. Benedicts School Ju Jitsu Club
Term Report, December 2014

I would like to first start by saying a big well done to all the students at St. Benedicts. It has been a brilliant year and I am so happy to be the instructor. The classes have been outstanding with their Ju Jitsu, with every lesson learning something new.

The infant class have been learning the basic moves from how to breakfall and learning their left and right hand fighting stances. With a lot to take in the class have been moving very fast learning so much in a short space of time. With a line up and game at the start of the lesson the class love getting ready to do their breakfalls with front rolling being the best breakfall to do.

With the infant class we have also been doing a lot of ground work from holding your partner down how to escape from someone pinning you down. This has been building up from a basic hold to them escaping and pinning them down, we have also made it in to a game and everyone is learning why having fun. Hugh Stark really enjoys playing the games and has been practicing with his older brother and it shows as he works really well and gets all the hold downs right.
We have also been practicing some self-defence from someone grabbing your wrists or shoulders trying to pull you around and also defence from someone punching or kicking you.
The wrist grabs have been going down really well and to show that they work I get the kids to do it on me, and I’m only a little bit bigger than them.

With the grading’s at the end of the term all the class have been working so hard and it goes to show on grading day. With a week before the grading we got everyone up to show the class the moves and everyone got it spot on, with the fitness being the only thing left to do I asked the class to practice at home with mums and dads, and even get them to do it with you.
The grading day was brilliant the class did an outstanding grading I was nervous for the class as some of the students came up to me before the lesson asking me questions, but a word or two before the grading everyone was ready. We started off the grading with a line up and warm up then straight in to a fitness test of five press ups, sit ups and burpees. Then moved on to are breakfalls with all the students saying the breakfalls in Japanese then English it was spot on. Once that was all done everyone did 10 more burpees and found a partner. The class moved on to ground holds and escape from ground holds, putting that again in to some kneeing grappling, with five or six rounds of grappling and fitness before the next round the class didn’t stop once. I am very proud of this class everyone did an outstanding grading and did the school proud as well.

This term all the junior class have been working so hard from learning some new throws and hold downs and also learning some fun arm and shoulder locks.
everything we done at the beginning of the term ties in to the end of year grading with the students showing how to put an arm lock on and also defend them self’s from a bully weather it is them kicking punching or grabbing. The students have been having loads of fun with this, with one in the pair being the bully and the over being bullied.

With some of the new students this term we have also been going over some basic moves. Every lesson we start off with a line up and worm up then get in to are breakfalls so everyone is forever learning how to breakfalls as it is a big part of Ishin Ryu with the amount of throws and take downs we do. The most popular breakfall is the front rolling as it builds ups the student’s confidence in rolling and also gets them ready for harder throws as they go up the grades.

This term student of the month has gone to Thierry Roy for and also Yakira Correia De Sousa B. They are always working extremely hard, and Thierry being one of the highest grades in the class the lower grades look up to him and it shows in the way they act in class. Yakira is very nice student to teach and is always willing to help and work with anyone and everyone in the class. I could not be more proud of the both of them well done you two keep up the good work.

With the grading’s coming up fast all the students have been working hard on their take downs and holds arm locks and shoulder locks. With the lower grades just going over the basic fighting stances front strangles and ground holds I know everyone will do fine.
With 2weeks before the grading we have been working on some grappling moves to help them moving around on the floor and also get in a better place on the ground, weather it is at the side or on top of the person.

A big well-done to all the students having passed their last grading’s of the year. This has been an amazing term for the students, having been working so hard getting ready for the grading.

The class have done an outstanding job with their grading having started off a bit shaky and nervous but once they started off with the lesson all the students relaxed and remembered what they were doing. We done a line up and started off the grading with are breakfalls, calling out in Japanese and the children saying it back in English, left side, right side breakfall, front and back breakfall and finishing off with front rolling breakfall. I then got them all in to pairs and started off with a fitness test having everyone start off with 10 press ups, sit ups, leg raises and burpees. The fitness level that all the children are at is amazing finishing the fitness tests off like it was nothing.

With the fitness out of the way we moved on to the grading moves starting off with are basic throws four by four, Major outta reap, dropping body drop and to finish with an inside hock. With the throws we started doing some stand up grappling to really put the throwing techniques to the test; mixing with that some fitness we hit the class with an extra two fitness test in their grading. I could not believe it but they pulled this off no problem all I can say is very well done.

We sat the lower grades down and got all the high belts out to do some extra work starting off with 20 burpees and 10 press ups some more stand up grappling was on the cards. With everyone all hot and sweaty we now finished off the grading with some questions about Ishin Ryu and the History of the club. The high grades having done a whole hour none stop still had enough energy to put their hands up and get all the questions right.

An outstanding grading by everyone very proud of the class they worked very hard and was amazing to see all their hard work put in to practice.
