Infants ready for their grading

Infants ready for their grading

I can’t believe it’s a year since I first started teaching at RAF Lakenheath. Now that more families are starting to find out that Ishin Ryu is on the base, the infant class is growing steadily. It’s an exciting time for the students as they have been invited to do their first ever demonstration at the annual 4th July Celebrations.

Congratulations to Kailey Currie, winner of Student Of The month. Kailey is such bubbly student and really tries hard in the lessons.

Congratulations to Keara Hill, who was awarded Student Of The Month. Keara is a very respectful student and really enjoys her Ju Jitsu lessons. She really works hard especially when it comes to fighting. I hope she will take part in this year’s championship as I know she will do well.

There is also a nice mixture of new belts and senior grades in the Infant class. Soon the club will take delivery of its new Shoman at the front of the dojo, which I am really excited about. As the dojo is in the middle of the community centre on the new skating arena, it is hard to get the student to understand it is their dojo. So hopefully with the new Shoman it will make it fell more like a dojo. The infant class has some great characters in the class, especially Kaleb & Mason who always make me laugh.

The Juniors did a very impressive grading, especially the beginners who performed exceptionally well. The best part of the grading was when they executed a takedown followed by a submission. The girls really look it seriously, more so when they went against each other. There are some good girls in the club that would do well in the championships in May. One student that also stood out was Jackson who really impressed me with his fitness levels since he started. Even after 45 minutes of grading I got them to do 50 burpees, and normally Jackson would have found it hard near the end. Not this time he just kept going right to the end. Congratulation to everyone you stood all be very proud of yourselves.

I hope some of the students from the club will enter into this year’s British Championships, being held at its new venue The Thetford Leisure Centre & Waterworld. This is always a great opportunity not only for the students to take part in this great event, but also for the parents to watch their child competing. For more information about the event, please visit our website for updated news & information. Finally congratulation’s to the entire club for a brilliant grading, you did me and your parents proud.
