I would like to start this month off by saying a big well done to our student of the months for May. In the infant class we have Ellie Gergel. Ellie has been working really hard and always helps others in the class; she is a very bubbly outgoing young lady and loves to talk. In the junior class student of the month went to Leo Parker-Maharaj. Leo is a very good student and a joy to teach – he works so hard and try’s his best every lesson. He isn’t the tallest but he still shows everyone that he is one tough cookie.
I would like to say well done to our student of the months – it is very hard to pick as you all work so hard and training really well each week. I am always on the lookout so if it is not you this month it might be you next month.
This month has been really good for all three classes. With the grappling competition on its way everyone has been working hard on stand up grappling and also working on loads of grappling moves and also going over the basics.
The infant class have been working so hard on a basic take downs by trying to sweep the leg to take them to the floor and then going for a hold down to pin their partner’s back flat to the floor. All the kids in the class have done an outstanding job and I am seeing some sweet throws and very fast hold downs. Also this month the infants have been working together in teams getting used to working together and making friends within the class. Everyone has got along and the class is always very friendly to new students.
The junior class have also been building on their stand up grappling skills with loads of rounds of grappling and random fitness tests throughout the lesson. It has been tough but the kids love it and can’t get enough of the fitness. With one of our lessons cut short at the beginning of the month due to a fire alarm going off everyone had a nice wet time standing outside waving at the firemen, but once they turned up they said it was safe to go back in.
Some of the moves the kids have been learning this month have been mostly arm locks and strangles something quick and easy to do one someone to end the fight. All the kids have done amazing at this and we have had some awesome arm bars and strangles going on in the grappling. I am looking forward to seeing so many of the kids coming back to the dojo with medals.
With the championships on Sunday 22nd May 2016 in Norfolk, our kids were all excited to get started and grapple with each other. The support from our parents was amazing and I would like to thank you all for being there and hope you had an amazing day.
We had some amazing wins from the potters bar dojo with two silvers and a bronze I am so proud of you all and going in to the next championships we will be going for gold.
Here are the list of students that won in the championships:
Junior Rafe Palmer – Sliver
Junior Joseph Hutson – Sliver
Junior Thomas Stone – Bronze
To finish off the teenager class have been working hard on the white belt syllabus learning hip throws and then from there different locks and holds putting in to practice our ground work mixing it up with hip throws. The kids in this class I treat as mini adults as the next level for them will be the adult class. Everyone has been working so hard and their syllabus is coming along nicely as the kids grading will be coming up thick and fast.
I would like to say a big thank you for all the support the parents give to the club without you the dojo would not be what it is today and I am honoured to have you all in the class. The championships highlighted how amazing your support is and just how much the kids have come along in their training you should be so proud.
Next month we will be working on more throws and different locks and moves on the ground getting ready for the gradings in July.
Even though we will be having a half term the club will still be open so have a lovely half term and I look forward to seeing you in the dojo if not after your holiday.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
