I would like to start this month by saying a big well done to Riley Olson from the infant class, and Eduardo Mejuto from the junior class on becoming June’s Student of the Month. They have both worked very hard and always put in 100% in to their training. Both boys are always willing to help others in the lesson and never moan. Well done boys – keep up the hard work.
This month the infant class have been getting themselves ready for the Potters Bar Carnival with loads of amazing breakfalls, grappling moves, throws and much more. They have been putting in to practice everything they have learned to show everyone in Potters Bar what we get up to in our weekly Ju Jitsu classes. This year’s Carnival was the biggest to date, to read more on this spectacular event, please go to The Potters Bar Carnival report that will be coming soon.
The children have been also been learning loads of new moves for their upcoming grading which is next month. The higher grades will be learning some locks and hold downs from standing and also kneeling with the lower belts learning basic hold downs stances and also breakfalls.
The class have been getting stuck in with grappling from kneeling and the high grades starting from standing. Also this month I have given the students some homework to work on with their mums and dads concentrating on their fitness from press ups, sit ups and burpees.
With all the kids working really hard on their grading work, we have also been working on their team building skills, working together to win different challenges and also try and beat Sensei Tom in different fitness games and I have to say that all the children are doing an outstanding job.
The junior class also did an amazing display at the Potters Bar carnival showing off their skills in grappling, throws locks and chokes. I have to say that this year the junior class blew my socks off with a perfect display of Ju Jitsu, I am so proud to have them as my students.
We have been working on palm heel strikes this month and also grabs from behind. This is teaching the kids how to block punches and also to hit back if someone is trying to attack them, using different hands to hit from left’s and rights to both hands together.
The class has been soaking everything up this month so we took the opportunity to recap on some basic moves from basic hold downs, hip throws before moving on to some Gi throws and escapes from someone holding you down.
The teenager class have been preparing for their grading’s that will be take place next month. The class have been training hard for the past five months on different throws and self-defence moves, and with all the hard work they have put in to their training it is coming together nicely. With the class at a nice size everyone gets along with each other and works together and it shows in the training.
Next month we have the National Gradings. Please make sure that all admin is handed in before the grading day.
I have to say that everyone is looking forward to the gradings as I know all the students are looking forward to receiving their new belts and I can’t wait to oversee my first grading as an Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu Sensei.
