To kick start this month off I would like to say a massive well done to Samay Patel from the infant class and Camron Addy from the junior class on becoming July’s Student of the Month. Both have been working so hard in class and are key members within the club. Keep up the good work boys!
This month the students at the Potters Bar dojo had their national grading, putting to the test the moves they have learned over the past four months and showing true Ishin Ryu spirt. With loads of hard work put in to their training it is now time for the infant and junior classes to put in to action everything they have learned.
The infant class started off so well that I had a good feeling that this would be one of the best gradings this class has ever done. With Thomas Stone being one of the highest grades in the class, he got everyone ready and in line for the start of the lesson. With the line-up done and getting straight in to the grading with a warm up and fitness with loads of amazing press ups, sit ups, star jumps and running from one end of the dojo to the other, the students soon got every part of the body nice and warm and ready for the next part of the lesson.
The moves the kids have been learning have been some basic self-defence moves from a punch, a push and also someone trying to hold them on the floor. With quick reactions the class had done all five moves perfectly. With the class moving on to more fitness and some grappling on the floor, everyone was doing so well they didn’t want to stop. We finished off the grading with some questions on the history of Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu which all the kids had their hands up for every question.
The junior class also did an amazing job , with everyone working 100% on their fitness and ground work. With all of them doing so well on their throwing techniques in to arm bars and also arm locks from standing it was a great show. From white belt all the way up to blue black the skill they put in to every move was brilliant, even putting the arm locks and arm bars in to action when grappling it was fantastic to watch.
Once that was out of the way we moved it up a gear and got into the fitness and grappling, with the high grades going for an amazing 20 press ups, sit ups, leg raises and burpees. With rounds of grappling from kneeling and also standing up, everyone was working so hard. I could not fault them, one of the highest belts Tommy Niblett was going for his brown black belt having to grapple with everyone and also doing 5 press ups after each round with no break. He did an amazing job – well done Tommy.
The teenager class have been working on some new ground work and throws to help them improve their grappling skills and also adding more tools for them to use. I have to say all the students have really got involved with learning some new throws and trying it out on me and also each over. Callan Colgan and Philip Filiou have been working with me a lot trying to throw me and once on the floor getting me to submit. Everyone has done an outstanding job and put 100% in to their training. Well done to all three classes and I look forward to teaching you more amazing Ju Jitsu over the summer holidays.
I want to say a big well done to all the kids that passed their grading. Everyone done an outstanding job, and I am so proud of you all.
