I would like to start this report off by saying big congratulations to Ilia Christophi in the junior class and Sam Cohen in the infant class on becoming this January’s student of the month. Lilla has come on so much with his training and he is a brilliant student to have in the class always asking questions and getting on with his work.

Sam Cohen  has been turning up to every lesson and always has a smile on his face when he is training. I never see him not looking happy and he is a model student helping everyone and always putting others before him.  Two fantastic students that I am glad to have January’s student of the month, keep up the good work guys.

January has been an exciting month we had our first lesson back in the New Year. Everyone could not wait to get back on the mat and all the parents couldn’t wait to get rid of them. The start of this month has been a bit of basic exercise and the right and wrong ways of doing press ups and burpees. Loads of children find it hard to do a press up and a burpee so at the start of the lesson we all do 10 press ups and 10 burpees to the count of Sensei Tom.

The children have found this to work so well and I can already start to see the training pay off.

Also this month we have been focussing on our ground work and stand up grappling, teaching the children how to get someone off balance to throw them and how to hold someone down who is trying to move off the floor.  Both classes have been training hard on this, letting their partner throw them or get them to the floor and start to grappling.

This month we have a new student to the Potters Bar Dojo. I would like to welcome to the infant class Megan Nibblet, Megan has wanted to join Ju Jitsu since she could walk as she has two older brothers that both do it as well. It is amazing to have you in the class Megan – you are a joy to teach.

The teenager class has been working on Basic white belt with different self – defence moves from a punch and also someone grabbing them. All of the students have put in 100% and they ask a lot of interesting questions. We have finished off this month with learning the hip throw from standing and then putting in a punch.

It has been a really good start to the year for the classes; keep it up guys and girls.

Please go to our website and look at the events page for all upcoming grading’s and events going on throughout the year.

Next month we will be learning some arm and leg locks with the junior and teenager classes, and the infant class will be learning some holds and escapes from the legs and arms.

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.

Many thanks,
Tom Garvin Sensei
