On Sunday 7th June 2015 Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu had taken part in the Potters Bar Carnival. It was a lovely day for it with the sun shining, and everyone in high spirits ready for an action packed day.
We started the day off with a parade around Potters Bar to show everyone where the Carnival was being held. The kids and adults turned up in their Ishin Ryu gis and big smiles ready for the walk up to the carnival. Once the parade started the party was in full swing with loads of music and people dancing the brass band leading the parade. All the children were having so much fun waving to everyone on the side of the road getting in to the carnival mood.
Once the parade got up to the top of Elm Court we headed in to the main arena where the carnival was opened with a big cheer from everyone the carnival had started. All the Ishin Ryu students and I headed to our stand where there were mats so people could come on for taster lessons and get more information about Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu.
With loads of people asking about what we did we had a full mat every time and everyone was so pleased to see us. At 3pm we had a demonstration with all the students getting involved. The infants showed some amazing breakfalls, and some self-defence from grabs and also some throws.
The juniors showed everyone some stand up grappling with some amazing throwing which everyone was speechless. Last up was myself and Sempai Jack we done some basic moves from the adult syllabus.
To finish off the demonstration Sensei Tom asked a member of the audience to come up to assist him with some Ki punching him in the stomach and kicking him in the groin.
Everyone looked in shock as the lady from the audience kicked me in the groin with no cup on, and just stand there as she kicked me 3 times and each time you could hear the contact and me just standing there. The audience could not believe what they just saw with all the dads coming up to me after asking how did I do that.
We done some more taster sessions on the mat and we had some of the children handing out leaflets to everyone that went past. I have to say that we had loads of brilliant feedback from everyone, and the children did an outstanding job.
I would like to thank everyone that had given up their time to be at the Potters Bar Carnival and be a part of the amazing demonstration. I was so proud of all the kids they have been working so hard and it’s amazing to see them putting it in to practice in front of so many people.
