During October the at the Potters Bar Ju Jitsu Club our students have been working hard on their Ju Jitsu and their charity work with a sponsored family fun night that got whole families involved in Ju Jitsu lesson. It was fantastic to see loads of Mums and Dads and even a Nan and Granddad on the mat.
After last year’s outstanding lesson the infant class were really excited to have their parents on the mat. We started off the lesson with a game of stuck in the mud to get everyone nice and warm, the we progressed to some some basic fighting stances and breakfalls which got the adults shouting and slapping the floor. We then got a little competition going with some team games where the students were pitted against the adults. This was so much fun especially when the losing team had to do star jumps although I think the kids had a little helping hand from Amber Gill as the adult team always lost. Once we finished the games we moved on to some basic ground holds to help the adults with grappling. We had the whole class learning some ground holds and also ground escapes – so if mums and dads do pin the kids down they can escape every time. The class was going really well and I could see that everyone was having loads of fun. To finish off the lesson we did some grappling from kneeling and with the adults lying down so it gave the kids a fighting chance.
The junior class had loads of fun showing off the moves that they have been learning for their next grading. But to start off the lesson everyone got started with a nice warm up and fitness test just to see how fit the adults were. This involved 7 press ups and sit ups and then running around the whole dojo soon which soon built up a sweat. Once the warm up was done the students showed their parents what we have been doing with their basic throws and some strangles. Everyone did so well and I have to say that the adults worked really hard. As with the infant class we also included some competitive games with the children competing against their parents. The kids won every time with the losing team doing star jumps, which were amazing by the end of the lesson. To finish off the lesson I let the adults have some pay back by grappling with their kids and they had loads of fun.
All of the classes did so well and I am so pleased so many adults came on to the mat to support an amazing charity well done everyone – lets raise loads of money for Hounds for Hero’s!!!!
