I would like to start this year off by saying welcome back it is so nice to see everyone back on the mat.

This month I would like to start by saying a big well done to Alex Yilmaz in the infant class and Eduardo Mejuto for the junior class on becoming this month’s student of the month. Both boys work hard in every lesson and always want to help. Well done boys and keep up the good work.

This month, as it is the first month back after Christmas, we had all the kids going over all the basics to get them back in to the swing of things. All the kids had so much fun going over the fighting stances bowing in and out of the dojo. It was really good to see everyone working so hard, and everyone had learned something new even myself.

The infant class have been working on grabs and holds from bullies, we started this at the end of last year and we have picked it back up again, and all the kids have done so well. With the wrist locks working so well we have picked it up by adding some throws in to the lessons as well. There has been a big interest in the basic throws we have been doing. The high grades have been doing some outstanding throws and take downs it has made them super throwers watch out everyone.

With the self-defence and grappling a key part of our training, we have also put a lot of fitness in to are games making the kids work hard but why they play, With every game the kids are doing their basic fitness test and more without them even knowing. Keeping kids fit by having fun.

The junior class have been going over a lot of grappling and take downs with loads of fun throws from hip throw and starting on a volley drop. With all the kids having some outstanding front rolling breakfalls we are starting on a very fun throw which some of the high grades have done in the past.
The kids have been doing a lot of fitness as a big part of training with loads of press ups running around and splitting up each exercise with a different movement i.e. press ups and running around, sit ups and hands and knees, all the kids are having loads of fun with this trying to beat each over who will be the fittest in the class…
finally this month has seen so many kids asking about arm locks and arm bars so we have been trying different arm locks from standing up, and also on the floor and seeing how flexible some of the kids are it is like having a class full of stretch arm strong. I have to say all the kids have been so busy and this has been an outstanding month.

The Teenager class have been busy learning their new syllabus with loads of new moves and throws. With the Christmas holiday behind us, loads of the students wanted to get back on track with training so we started with a nice warm up and grappling and let’s just say it felt nice to go outside in the cold after the lesson. With loads of rounds of stand up grappling and fitness running around even I got all hot training with some outstanding students they are learning so quick and they are all getting taller than me.

I would like to say a big thank you to Alasdair Coulter for all of his help with the infant class and junior class, as part of his school work he needs to do some helping out of school and asked if he can help me with Ju Jitsu and he has been doing an outstanding job. With Alasdair being one of the high belts in the teenager class at Potters Bar he is a good student.
