The Potters Bar students have had loads of fun this month working on their grading moves! With loads of amazing throws and brilliant ground holds, the kids are really enjoying it.

Our Infant students have been doing a lot of throwing and grappling moves this month. Learning some easy take downs and throwing techniques, the kids have been enjoying using different ways to pull or push their partner down, making them even stronger and improving their balance skills.  I have seen a big improvement. Even with half term coming up, the kids have been more excited about learning more stand-up grappling and improving their ground holds than having a week off school, which is fantastic! With the Front Double Leg Scoop becoming the kids’ favourite technique to use when grappling, one student that has taken very well to the work, and has been very good at the take down grappling has been Christopher Elliott. He has been working so hard over the last month, so it was only right that I made him Student of the Month! A very big ‘well done’ to Christopher – keep up the hard work!

The Junior Class has been getting ready for their first gradings of the year, learning new techniques of stand-up grappling, basic throws, locks and ground holds. They have been enjoying this so much that it has brought the class together. To see the students showing off some amazing throws, ground holds and even some chokes in grappling is outstanding to watch. We have been putting that in to practice by playing different games to improve throws and taking their partner off-balance to throw them out of the ring, and the kids really enjoy this.

Annabel Weber is the highest grade in the class attempting her Brown/ Black belt this will be a big test for her and I know she will do she has the whole class supporting her.  I know that the rest of the class cannot wait to be a part of her grading as well as her helping everyone with their gradings. With everyone one working so hard there has been one student that has been working so hard and helping other students with the grading work.  It is with that in mind that I am very proud to give Student of the Month to Louis Christofi.

The Teenager Class has been very busy this month, working not only on their syllabus but also on their ground work and also stand up grappling. Everyone has picked up something different from the lessons from new ground hold techniques to how to defend yourself from someone strangling you. The students are really enjoying this and you can tell that everyone is getting better each week. With fitness being a big part of training, it has been a big eye-opener for the lower grades, having to go from doing exercise to grappling or even defending yourself from someone attacking you. This has been very interesting for the students as they have to dig deep and keep going with true Ishin Ryu sprit, which everyone has been doing brilliantly. I have seen the improvements already and I know that they will keep getting better and better every week.  It is fantastic to see everyone working so hard and learning something new each week.
