I would like to start this half terms report of by saying a big well done to Joshua Sidney on becoming this term’s Student of the Month. He has been working so hard in every lesson and has come a long way since he started. I know he has become a very good martial artist and has true Ishin Ryu spirt. I know he is also looking forward to taking his first grading as well. Well done Joshua keep up the hard work.
This half term all the kids have been working really hard on locks and throws with loads of different trips and take downs. I have to say all of them have picked this up so easily. This half term we have been really busy with getting ready for the grading’s, making sure all the students know their moves and feeling confident about it. I know that with all the hard work they have been putting in to their training it will be easy for them but it is always funny to see the look on their faces when you say grading’s are coming up. We have been learning some new throws this term as this is something we have not done much of. The kids are loving the moves and as they are part of their grading it helps them no end, the throws we have been learning are the basic dropping body drop and also inside hock the kids like the dropping body drop as it is a fast throw and you hit the floor quick. We have been doing a nice finish off from the throws as well with locks and strikes.
With the ground work side of the training, we have been going over some arm locks and holds from the side of the body which is making grappling for the kids harder because they all want each other’s arms which is funny to watch. The move the students are getting a lot is the straight arm bar, and they have some amazing arm bars going on.
With throwing and grappling aside we have been learning loads of self-defence moves keeping with the ground work of arm locks and shoulder locks. We have been using that with our self-defence, if someone grabs you or punches you. It has been working really well and I have to say all the kids get the arm locks on quick.
I would like to add that if your child has misplaced or keeps forgetting their progress card please make sure you come and see me about it as the cards show how well all the students are doing and also if they fill up a line they will then get them self’s a Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu medal.
Also next term we are getting all the kids ready for the grading’s so wish them all good luck!!!
