Lee Swain big bad bully

Lee Swain big bad bully

I would like to start this new school year off by saying a big welcome to the new year 1 classes. Loads of new faces and new names to remember. It is an honor to meet you all and also to teach you some amazing Ishin Ryu Jiu Jitsu. I would also like to welcome back everyone to the dojo and I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday. To ease all the kids back into their Ju Jitsu we have been going over some basic moves from grabs, strangles, ground work and fitness.

The year 1 classes have been getting used to the way of Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu with meeting Sensei Tom Garvin the main teacher at the school and also meeting Lee Swain Sempai who is our assistant instructor learning off Sensei Tom as he wants to teach full time once he can do his black belt. Also the year 1s have been working on basic fighting stances and ground holds but most important is learning how to play the games like sensei said and stuck in the mud.

Year 2 class working on front strangles

Year 2 class working on front strangles

The year 2 classes have been working on basic front strangles and how to deal with someone being a bully and stopping them from being pulled about. The kids have been loving this and pulling each other around is always fun. To start each lesson, we do our basic breakfalls to get them use to hitting the floor and how to deal with getting thrown or pushed over.

The year 3 and year 4 classes have stepped up a level and doing more ground work learning how to lock someone up using their arm or leg and also started to move on to some rear strangles from kneeing. They have been working so hard and getting into the work nicely.
The year 5 and 6 classes have been working on arm locks and shoulder locks from someone attacking them from a punch or even a hand shack. You may think a hand shack that is a bit harsh? But nowadays if someone was to grab a child or a bully to pull them around shaking someone’s hand is the easiest point to hold someone. This year’s kids have been taking it all in and have understood it so well. Having been the oldest in the school they have grown up with Ishin Ryu from year 1 and I have been very lucky to have been teaching most of them from year 1 and it is amazing to see them grow up within the school.

All in all, this half term has been really fun and amazing to see everyone back. I look forward to seeing
