I would like to open this month’s report by saying a massive congratulations to our Student of The Month, Daniel “Cyborg” Macdonald. Throughout January, Daniel has given nothing less than 100% in every session, and in doing so has gone a long way to perfecting his Rear Naked Choke and Straight Arm Bar. His sparring is amongst the best in the class, using a combination of strikes to soften his opponent up, before taking them to the ground for a devastating finish. Well done Daniel!
The New Year has started with a bang for all the students as we work off the mince pies and too many Christmas treats. The dojo has been progressing with their White Belt syllabus, covering sidearm pickup, basic kubaton work, Palm-Heel strikes, and moving into intermediate ground work.

A number of the students have really come on. Morgan “Eight Limbs” Macsween and Ruairidh “The Bull” Macenzie have both taken to pad work; Lewis “The President” O’Connor is developing some excellent ground skills; and Eilidh “Little Miss Right Hook” Ferguson… well, don’t get on the business end of her right hook.
At the end of every month we have our traditional “beasting” session, where all the students work solidly for two hours to improve their cardio. A hundred situps (yes, 100!) set the tone of the night, and everyone showed great spirit as they got their sweat on!
Next month we will be progressing into the second half of the ground work as well as developing our combination striking skills and alternate stances.
Finally, all things being equal, I hope to host a seminar in March or April that will focus exclusively on percussive striking, and will be taken by a Muay Thai champion – details to follow.
It only leaves be so say Domo Aragato. Until next month.
