Lionel Ju Jitsu Club
Monthly Report, October 2014

For Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu, this has been a month like no another, in a village like no other.

From opening the doors to our new dojo in Lionel just a few weeks ago with four students, we now regularly have classes of fifteen plus who give it everything that they have got each and every lesson.

We have been focusing on our strikes before moving into groundwork and submissions, and the Major-Outer-Reap is becoming a firm favourite. Everyone’s hip-throw is coming along well, and there have been some exceptional demonstrations of fortitude and spirit. Ishin Ryu is not an easy discipline, and every week we build on the previous lessons in order to stretch ourselves a little bit further. There is already a great sense of camaraderie, and this has made selecting the Student of The Month such a difficult process.

At the end of every month, all the students tackle “The Beast” – a two-hour intense cardio session where we recap the previous month’s lessons. The “Student of The Month” is awarded not to the student who is the best during this class, but to the one who wants to be the best – the one who has come the furthest in the previous four weeks, and conducts themselves in the Ishin Ryu tradition both on and off the mat. It is therefore, with great pride, that I am pleased to announce Iain Mackenzie and Lewis O’connor as Students of The Month for October 2014.

Off the mat, the students’ improved concentration, fitness, and focus is being noticed by colleagues and teachers alike… so much so that BBC Radio Scotland will shortly be coming to Lionel Dojo to run a feature on the school and its students.

Our founder and chief instructor, Kevin Pell Sensei, will be visiting at the beginning of December, and I hope to see everyone on the mat, showing why Lionel is best.

Finally, on 6th December, members of Ishin Ryu Lionel will be taking part in the Ness 10k Run, where we will be raising much needed funds for “Help for Heroes”. We have been training for a month, and this weekend will be transitioning from resistance training to road running.
