On May 5th 2013 students from Ishin Ryu jumped at the opportunity to travel to Milton Keynes to compete in a National Japanese amateur mixed martial arts tournament. This tournament combines the disciplines of striking and grappling whilst standing and on the ground with an emphasis on retaining traditional Japanese values and etiquette.
Although Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu is primarily a self-defence based system and therefore does not train for competitions such as this, the students utilised their high levels of skill, conditioning and fighting spirit to take two golds and one silver medal from the four weight categories that they entered.
Del Shannon Sensei – Gold under 70k
Andy Herbert Sensei – Gold under 80k
Sam Gladdy – Silver under 90k
As always, Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu supporters were there to cheer on their fellow students, making up the largest (and loudest) group of spectators at the event, many thanks to Lee Hasdell for putting on the event, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
