At the start of the March, student of the month was awarded to Edward Moody. Edward works extremely hard each lesson, eager to help out with others, loves fitness and gives his all, 100% of the time. Well-done Edward, fantastic effort this month.
On Friday the 11th March 2016, Hopton Ju Jitsu club had their first National gradings of the year, time to be tested on the techniques that we have been learning over the past few months. I had the children lined up at the side of the mat ready for a little pep talk before we started to get them all fired up and giving 100% effort. We always start with normal formalities, which they get tested on, then warm-up shortly followed by breakfalls and fitness tests.
After this was completed we moved onto the techniques that they have been practicing for the grading. To make it a little more interesting we amalgamate fitness into the grading, press-ups, sit-ups, leg raises, burpees and a variety of other exercises to keep them busy. The more senior belts within the group had extra fitness thrown at them.
Other students also want to do more fitness regardless of their grade and like to support their friends by joining in. Near the end of the grading the senior belts are pulled out in front of the class to perform extra work; the higher the belt the harder it becomes. The gradings went fabulous, students gave their maximum effort.
The following week we had class games, they work very hard practicing for months leading up so I award them with a fun lesson, the hall is quite small so we are unable to enjoy games like dodge ball but they do like numerous rounds of sumo. After games I leave time allocated for class presentations when parents, relatives & friends bring along their cameras to record this special occasion. At the very end of the presentation the students throw their old belts into the air in joy of success…
Over the next couple of weeks, the students practiced shoulder throw and how to turn in. It won’t be long before they are throwing each other efficiently. Easter holidays are here so its time for all students to have a couple of weeks rest & recuperation. Well-done everyone!
