Working on Casualty drags

Working on Casualty drags

With September now complete, everyone is back at school and in their routine, that includes Jiu Jutsu. During summer holidays there was no Jiu Jutsu at Hopton club but that didn’t stop students as they would attend other clubs around the area.

Student of the month this time around was awarded to Alicia Lucraft who gives maximum effort with everything she does. Alicia is very competitive and hates to lose, a very tough young lady and not afraid to get little knocks. Well done Alicia!

The new black uniform is settling in well with all the students and the parents, (being a parent myself I understand how difficult it can be to keep those white Gi’s “white”) the new Gi is technically designed so much better than the previous one. Made from polycotton, it gives the user a good blend of polyester and cotton. The cotton has good moisture absorbing properties and the polyester has non-ironing properties which help the parents when it comes to those ironing chores. That wasn’t enough for Kevin Pell Sensei (Founder and chief instructor) he wanted to make it that much stronger so decided to have it triple stitched to make the whole suite tougher and finished off with an embroidered logo on the back.

Lots have been happening over the course of the month with medals and awards been giving out but as for training, we have been working on a variety of techniques. Those classical school yard bully techniques where you’re enticed to shake hands with a bully only to find out that he’s not been too nice and wants to hurt you that little bit more. So we worked on a few handshake moves, varied depending on classes. We then took it a little stage further when they managed to get you into a headlock and try to get the students to interact a little bit and act out as a bully.

Fitness is always on the gender as it keeps everyone fit and healthy. Casualty drags were something we tried this month both forward and reverse. We don’t have a large space but a few lengths always make up for that.

Please keep practicing your belt tying techniques and if you can already tie your belt, make it a little harder by closing your eyes or try tying a belt on someone else. I look forward to seeing your demonstrations in class.
