Congratulations to Finley Holloway receiving student of the month for April 2015. This year Finley has shown a great progression with learning his techniques and gives maximum effort to his Ju Jitsu. Well-done Finley!
At the start of April, the children were still enjoying their Easter half term break and where not back to Ju Jitsu training till the 17th April – a nice rest after the the indulgence of Easter eggs. The children were super excited to get back to training and after a little break they were eager to let off some steam.
Their first lesson back we went straight to breakfalls after their warm-up, a quick refresher was all that was needed to get them back into the swing of things. From there, we moved onto a few relay races to get the blood pumping around the body; press-ups, sit-ups, burpees leg raises and a few other physical activities to get them going. The remainder of the lesson we started on a new throw called “Ogoshi” (Hip throw). Greta Fagher was excited to start learning this and asked for the technique to be demonstrated on her.
We started off with the fundamentals of the technique to get them all started before pairing them up and sending them away to start practicing. I moved around the mat and helped each group perfect this throw; they all made a massive step on this technique and I was excited to see them move forward so quickly.
The following week we performed the same again to see if they had forgotten the little details of this throw. I sat them to the side and got a few groups to come out in front of the class to demonstrate. They gave a great demonstration so they paired together to practice more. Tyler Rose, who has made fantastic progress with his mobility, practiced this for the first time and was worried about not being able to perform due to his size, but surprised himself when he did; well done Tyler!
Next month we look forward to the British Championships taking place in Thetford, Norfolk. The medals that have being produced look fantastic and will really stand out in anyone’s trophy cabinet.
Please don’t forget if you wish to enter into the competition that all entry forms need to be handed into myself by Friday the 8th may 2015. Don’t worry about their weight; I will have some scales to weigh everyone in.
Well done to everyone at the Hopton Ju Jitsu club, you really are showing great progress. I look forward to see everyone next month for some more great sessions.
