Student of the Month was awarded to Paul Erwin who continues to try hard each month and always has great etiquette; well done Paul, keep it up…
I would like to say welcome along to Robert Easter who has joined us at the Hopton School Dojo, Robert’s making good progress and enjoying himself along the way.
At the start of the month we worked on fitness and had a go at some tabata workouts, working on the theory twenty seconds hard work, ten seconds rest. All students enjoyed doing this but got lovely and sweaty by the end.
Defence’s from a punch was the next technique; a safety talk was given as we have a mixed group and didn’t want any potential strikes to their partner’s heads. We got all the students to block the punch and then take down their partners using throwing techniques previously practiced. They would then pin their partner using a Scarf Hold.
We have also being working on defences from a double wrist grab, Standing Randori and Grappling.
On 18th May 2014 Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu British Championships took place at Cambridge sports college in which students from all over the country participated to get the title of British Champion. Ryan Harrington participated in this competition and gave a really good effort. Ryan had some hard fights. I’m sure by next year Ryan will be a lot stronger and fitter for the next. A great effort and very proud of you!
At the end of May we had half term and unfortunately were not training as the school was closed. With us reaching half way through the year it will not be long until gradings are here.
I look forward to telling you all next month how everyone is progressing in the month of June…
