Congratulations to Lisa Moore from the Infants receiving student of the Month award for June 2014.
Robert Simpson that joined us in May has really been working hard and giving his all. Now that he has his uniform he feels so much apart of the class. Robert will attempt his 13th Mon (White/Black Belt) in July when we have the Hopton School Dojo Grading. We also had Ella Lindberg and Greta Fogtier have some trial lessons and by the look on their faces are really enjoying themselves. Hopefully they will stick with it and join the class.
At the beginning of the month we concentrated on their stances left and right. We also practiced front jabs, reverse punches, front snap kicks and reverse kicks. They all had great fun doing this! Great to see them all working so well together…
We practiced their techniques needed for their gradings over and over again. The techniques needed for their gradings were: S-Parry Block, Major Outer Reap to then finish off with a hold of the following: Scarf Hold, Shoulder Hold and Chest Hold. With random changes to partners I moved around the mat to ensure they got each one correct.
With them all sitting at the side, each pair came to the centre of the mat and demonstrated whichever technique I called. We also practiced basic throws learned previously, as on the grading I would be asking them to perform them. With multiple rounds of kneeling and standing grappling throughout the techniques practiced.
It was a great month for all students at Hopton Dojo and we are set for a busy month of July when we have the children’s gradings and Hopton School Fete!
