Congratulations to Conan Li awarded Student of the Month for June 2014.
I welcome along to the class Marianna Christoforou, I hope you enjoy yourself on your Martial Arts journey whether it be short or long.
Throughout the month of June, Ishin Ryu Students from High Elms Manor School have been working towards their gradings, scheduled at the end of the month.
They have all been working really hard towards achieving their goal. We have been working on a block we call S-Parry. The first thing we concentrated on was getting them all in the right stance needed for this particular block. We all had great fun working on these stances and using reference points on their uniform to help them remember which leg to place forward. Leading on from this we started slowly defending a punch that their partner would throw in. We worked at a slow pace to start with because as you can imagine, if they all start getting excited about punching each other there would be a few tears… With them all being very respectful to each other we achieved this with ease.
Once they blocked the punch they would follow the technique on with a throw called Major Outer Reap. This throw they have been working on in previous months so it wasn’t hard to link these two techniques together. With them all getting the grasp of this I asked them all to finish the technique off with basic pins, Scarf Hold, Shoulder Hold and Chest Hold. They all practiced this technique using the three finishes.
The end of the month had arrived and they were all geared up and ready to push themselves through their gradings. I started off with basic etiquette, line-up, training oath, breakfalls and fitness. They all flew through this as it’s practiced at the start of every lesson. It was time for them to all demonstrate the techniques previously mentioned. With lots of repetitions on each one they were all competent.
It was time to step it up, so I incorporated lots of grappling both kneeling and standing mixed up with fitness. With grit and determination all students pushed to successfully achieve their next grade.
Next month I will be conducting grading presentations when all students will be receiving their new belts. We will also demonstrate to the parents what they have been working on and of course the children’s fun lesson as they have all worked so hard.
