It was going to be a fantastic day, with the sun shining on the stunning grounds of our Finborough School club. This is the fourth year that I have been invited to do a display with the students at their farewell summer fete. This year for the first time my demonstration team were invited to show the parents their display which has been seen at many different events this year. Also the Ishin Ryu Ninja Turtles were going to make a surprise appearance for all the students and children at the fete.
There was so much for all the families to have a go at during the afternoon. There was even the new craze of Bouncy Football, were you were in an inflatable bubble from the waist up. It meant that you could slam into your opponents and they would fall over and you could still play football. It was a bit like rugby and very funny to see players being slammed to the floor. The students always enjoyed the bouncy castle, slides, lots of stalls and plenty of barbecue food on offer.
It was especially great this year with the demonstration, as we had the new mats and a much bigger area for them to use. It was a great turn out by all the students and the support of my demonstration team. This year I also had a wireless microphone & sound system, so I was able to talk through the demo as it went along. This was really good for all the parents to understand what was going on. What also worked well was when I was part of it, during the stunt rolls by Ben and Kieran. This looked really professional and very impressive.
Two of the students that I was really proud of were Olly and William who did some of their syllabus techniques. This included lots of throws, baton work and self-defence techniques. They did a fantastic demonstration throughout. It was very impressive as they were doing in front of all the parents on their own, which is always very scary to do. Olly and William have been training with me since the club first started in the small dance studio. Their confidence and skills in Ju Jitsu have developed into a very high standard, and it is always an honour to see them demonstrate their skills.
The parents really loved the display and cheered throughout, especially when it came to the stunt techniques at the end. I was very proud of all the students from the school for all their hard work during the last term and their commitment to their training and the display.
Once the display was over it was time for the Ninja Turtles to surprise the students and parents. This was the first time that Rafael & Leonardo had been together at an event. As they walked around the school’s main building to the rear of the grounds the students all started to run towards them to say hello. It was so great to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they say them for the first time. For the next hour it was non-stop photos with the children & parents wanting their photos taken with them.
It was all in all a fantastic afternoon for all the students and the demonstration team. Thank you to all my students that took part in the demonstration and to the demonstration team who travelled with me.
I would also like to thank all the parents that came along to support the event and Terry for all his help.
