As we fast approach Christmas, instead of slowing down here at Ishin Ryu we seem to speed up! As well as adult gradings to finish off the year we also have the teenage gradings and party nights to contend with.
On the day of the gradings, the teenagers from Honbu and Wymondham dojos all arrived bright and breezy on a cold but bright winter’s day ready to put themselves to the test. As usual we commenced with a full kit inspection – right down to the correct colour socks (always interesting when today’s fashion seems to be to wear odd ones!) This was followed by a quick change into dogis before stepping out into the cold for a brisk run around the sleepy village of Caston WITH NO SHOES ON. This is the traditional start to any grading for adults within Ishin Ryu, and as usual our teenagers don’t like to be out done, so off they ran in the spirit of Ishin Ryu leaving their shoes behind!
After a cleanup it was straight into the dojo for a few hours of gradings, covering grades from White-Red belt all the way up to Brown belt (which also involves a 3 mile run prior to the grading- remember these students are teenagers)
As usual, success is never guaranteed and the day ended with a mixture of happy and less happy faces. For those of you who didn’t succeed on this occasion, learn by your mistakes and come back stronger next time. Well done to you all for an exceptional show of effort both physically and mentally.
The last sessions of the year were the usual mix of madness with dressing up and too many sweets to count. Lots of card and present swapping and so many games that everybody’s heads were spinning! What a great end to 2014 – can’t wait to see you all next year
