I would like to say again a big well done to Harry Vango on becoming September’s infant student of the month Harry has not missed a lesson and he has been working very hard -well done Harry keep it up. I would also like to say a big well done to Imogin Kelly on becoming September’s junior student of the month – she has not missed a lesson either, and is always willing to learn and help over students out all the time – well done and keep up the good work.
And finally in the second junior class I would like to say a big well done to Lauran Smith for becoming the student of the month. I know she has been working hard with her brother and they both try their best. Well done to all the students of the month – it is so hard to pick.
It has been an action packed month for the students, even with the summer holidays coming to an end; the students have been working super hard. It shows in their training with the classes filling up, we can focus a lot more on the basic moves and perfecting them. With the infant class we have been going over a lot of moving around on the ground, pulling and pushing are partners getting them to the floor and holding them down. All the students are really enjoying this, and getting to work with each over makes it so much fun.
I know everyone is enjoying the grappling and everyone wants to grapple with me and at the moment everyone is beating me Help! With all the students really enjoying the grappling we put the grappling in to some games. We played super sumo, stuck in the mud and also bull dog. All the games had grappling involved trying to hold their partner down pull them to the floor or even just going over some of the hold downs they have learned.
Both junior classes have been working a lot more on self-defence and throwing with the class really getting stuck in. With loads of different attacks from a grab from behind, in front and even someone strangling them. This is more advanced work for the students but this class works so hard, can be pushed a lot more, and have loads of fun. Loan Henry and Janarth Premabala getting stuck in to the front strangles and showing some fast defences and amazing strike.
With all the hard work the students have been putting in we put all their energies in to action with games, with some stand up bull dog, and super sumo all the kids found out how easy it is to take someone down when they are moving to you and grabbing you. To finish all the month we done a lot of fitness and different exercise working on different parts on the body mainly legs and arms, and to do this we played a game I use to love this as a kid, it was called “tug of war” this uses your legs and arms to pull your partner away from their finish line.
Throughout the month teenage students performed their breakfalls working from one side of the mat to the other. They soon found this quite tiring but it really helped especially for the more junior students. We also performed some minute drills with throws.
Working in pairs one person would go first and try and complete as many throws as possible before swapping over and letting their partner have a go. This was very tiring and disorientating but a fabulous way to condition yourself to being thrown many times, something you find you will always need. Syllabus was also a big factor this month as it’s not going to be long before the winter gradings are upon us!
Next month is going to be a special month as we are going to have all the mums and dads on the mat with the students on the years Ishin Ryu family fun night. All the kids are super excited to have a change to do Ju Jitsu with their mums and dads.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
