This has been a good month for the Bushey dojo and everyone has been working very hard this month.
I would like to say a big well done to Shayan Shah for becoming student of the month for June. I know he is keen to learn and has been trying so hard with training – keep up the good work Shayan.
This month all the children have been learning loads of new locks and holds from standing and kneeling, not just grappling but also from someone punching them or kicking them. This is teaching the children a great deal – from how to block an attack and use that block to get a good lock or throw to hold down the attacker.
One big part of training this month has also been practising fitness. With the help from mums and dads at home we have been working hard to improve the children’s press ups, sit ups and leg rises. The children have been working so hard on this and the press ups are looking amazing Huey Esteban has been showing the class how to do them getting his nose to touch the floor and nothing else.
This month the junior class have been training none stop on their grappling skills and take downs putting it all in to practice not just from a competition start but also if someone was to try and punch or kick them. We have been teaching the junior students some new throws and also how to block a punch from a left hand stance or a right witch is making them think about the moves and how to block. Thesanya W-Perera and Lauren Kelly have been showing real skills with the punching and blocking they have been working their socks off on the moves.
With learning now holds and locks not just from the floor but from standing he have also been going over some old basic hold downs making sure that the juniors remember the basics because the basics to any move is the foundation to making the student better at a move and helps them with harder locks and throws. Ioan Henry has been amazing at remembering all the basics socking everything up and also helping some of the lower belts as well.
Student of the month for June in the junior class is Janarth Premabala. He is a hard worker and I know that he is really enjoying his training and doesn’t mind getting stuck in and getting pulled about when grappling. He never gives up and is always training hard each week. Well done Janarth keep up the good work and keep training hard.
