I would like to say a big well done to Brandon Valadares for becoming Student of the Month for April. I know he has been trying so hard with training and when it comes to doing anything he always puts his hand up and is so keen to learn so keen that he is doing two times a week. Keep up the good work Brandon.
For the Junior class, Student of the Month is Declan O’Mahony. He has shown massive improvement and dedication to his training and is looking forward to competing in this year’s championships in May. Well done to both Students of the Month – it is getting harder to pick a Student of the Month as everyone in the class do amazing.
This month we have been getting ready for this year’s British grappling championships, with all the children really excited for this year’s competition. We have been getting everyone ready with the rules and what they will have to do to enter. I know that the Infant class have been training hard, perfecting their throws and take downs to get their partners on to the ground quickly.
Once on the ground we have got all the kids going over good hold downs and pins to make sure that they keep their partners back on the floor. It has been brilliant to watch all the kids coming so far over the last 2 months.
I know that Charlie Bignell will be going for gold this year as for the past two years he has got two silver medals and I can see loads of his class mates cheering him on and wanting him to get gold. All the class have been training hard with Charlie and all waning to grapple him and throw him, being Mr popular is a hard life.
The Junior’s have also been learning some amazing dropping throws with quick take downs to make sure they get on top of their partners quick. I have to say that the class have been amazing and I can’t wait to see everyone fight. Some of the moves we have been working on have been a dropping body drop and inside hook, two fast throws to get your partner down. Moving on from there to quick submission naked choke and arm bars. All the class have been having so much fun with the arm bar that everyone has been getting each other in the arm bars every time they grapple.
I would like to let everyone know that next month is the British national championships on Sunday 17th May 2015. If you want to enter make sure bring the entry forms in by next lesson or by Saturday 9th May 2015. It will be good to see are little warriers win gold and become the British National champion.
Myself and the class are most looking forward to this year’s grappling competition in May and also I am looking forward to my up and coming black belt grading. Good luck to everyone taking part in the championships.
