Bushey Grove Tuesday Ju Jitsu Club
Grading Report, March 2014

This month has been a huge success for the Bushey Tuesday Class, having worked so hard for what proved to be an outstanding grading. This is the second grading for the Tuesday students. They have come a long way and I am so proud of all of them. I really could not ask for a better class of students.

We kicked off the grading with the Infant Class. The kids had been looking forward to this for weeks on end! I started off the grading with a line-up making sure all the kids could get into line without me helping them. They did this very quickly indeed and I was very impressed.

Once that was out of the way, we got everyone started by doing some breakfalls and running around to get warm. Next it was time to get the kids thinking… We started off with the grading moves – four different throws, where we made that both partners did them four times each. The Basic Body Drop was the kids’ best throw – I could see they all had fun learning this move. I could not ask for any more from them with their throws, so we moved on to our ground holds and pin-downs, putting them to the test with rounds of grappling.

Once all the students had the taste for the grappling, I threw some press-ups and sit-ups into the mix, and got them to try stand-up grappling where they had to throw their partners to the ground then grapple with them. I must say the students were pulling off some amazing throws and were so quick on the hold-downs as well. I finished off the grading with some history about Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu and everyone had their hands up with every question I asked.

Next up was the Junior Class’ grading… Congratulations to all the juniors today on an outstanding grading from the start of the lesson to the end. It was nonstop and everyone kept going. With the class starting with a traditional line-up to get everyone in the right mind-set for their grading, we kicked off with a fitness test. With everyone going for their yellow belt, the fitness test was 13 press-ups, sit-ups, leg-raises and burpees. That got everyone nice and warm. Next it was breakfalls, with side breakfalls to the left and right, front and back and also front rolling breakfalls. These were spot on, with everyone doing some outstanding breakfalls.

We moved on to basic throws with each pair doing four of each throw, starting with Major Outer Reap, followed by Dropping Body Drop, and the Front Double Leg Scoop to finish. I put the students to the test by asking them to perform their favourite throw, to which everyone demonstrated the awesome Dropping Body Drop. In total, I think the students did about 40 throws each.

It was good to watch some wicked and fast throws from the students. With the throws looking so good we then started the stand-up grappling, where the students got to put their throws to the test – harder than you think when someone is trying to throw you as well!

To finish off a fantastic grading, I asked the students some questions on the history of Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu and all the students put their hands up answering everything I asked. An all-round perfect grading! I am very proud to teach such a fantastic class.
