I would like to start this month of by saying a big well done to Marley Adams in the infant class and Ryan Kett Morais in the junior class for becoming this October’s student of the month. Both students have worked extremely hard with helping the lower belts with their training and also working hard on their own training with some amazing moves I can see that they have come a long way from last year. Keep up the good work. I would also like to add a big well done to Logan Slevin in the teenager class on becoming this October’s student of the month. Logan has been working very hard and tries his best every lesson.
This month both classes have been working on their wrist locks and ground work for their up coming gradings. The infant class have been practicing wrist grabs from someone holding their wrists with both hands trying to pull or push them around. The kids have found this so much fun learning quick and simple techniquesto get them out of the grip.
With their partner holding them in two different ways it is also teaching the infant students what hands to use and getting them using their fighting stances in the moves.
The class have come on so much with not many of them remembering their left and right hands and feet, till now when all of the class can do the same hand and foot at the same time. I feel so proud when the class works so hard.
With the wrist grabs being one part of the grading we also have some ground work were someone is holding them down trying to pin them and grapple. All the kids love grappling and rolling around with each over it is a brilliant fitness tool and all the students are super fit.
The junior class have been learning on the same moves as the infant class but putting some strikes to finish the technique to make it look a bit more Ishin Ryu. Throws and locks push the high grades to do a little bit more to test their minds and the lower grades building up to that with a strike or a basic throw.
I have to say that all the class this month have been working very hard not just with their grading work, but also with grappling taking each over to the floor with different take downs and keeping their partner to the floor. Even some of the mums and dads are saying how much fun the classes are looking and how much the children are enjoying the lessons.
Being a major part of the grading, I have also told all the students to also go to the Ishin Ryu website to brush up on their history, as this will be coming up on the grading.
The teenage class have shown excellent spirit this past month. Each week we have a warm up and quick demonstration of all the students’ breakfalls particularly emphasising the front rolling breakfall picking up a weapon. Following this the students broke off into their syllabus groups in order to learn and practise the techniques they will be required to demonstrate in order to earn their next belts.
Next month is going to be a special one as we are going to have all the mums and dads on the mat with the students on this year’s Ishin Ryu family fun night. All the kids are super excited to have a change to do Ju Jitsu with their mums and dads. With the family fun night going on next month we also have the children’s grading’s as well so watch this space.
