Firstly I would like to say to all the classes well done on the gradings. It was great to see everyone work so hard and attempt to move up to the next grade. Also I would like to say well done to Jessica Magromallis and Jack Fraser for being awarded the student of the month award; you have both worked hard and deserve to wear that belt.
The Bushey classes have been focused on the gradings lately; all the classes have been practicing ground holds so that when it comes to grappling they have a verity of hold downs that they can use. Besides hold downs we have also have been upping their fitness so they are physically stronger and quicker. In all the classes they have been doing countless rounds of grappling against each other, this is to improve their skills and understanding of grappling.
They also have been grappling with different students; this is to help them get used to fighting students that are different sizes. Kara and Rhys from the Friday class have come on leaps and bounds since starting with the club. They have been practicing their ground holds and can now perfectly show us a scarf hold and shoulder hold. It’s great to see the class making progress.
Infant’s classes have been enjoying their lessons as they get to roll around with their friends and put into practice what they have learnt over the past couple of weeks. The infants put a lot of effort into their grading it was great to watch. Well done to you all and I can’t wait to see you in your new belts next week.
Juniors have also been working on their grappling skills, they have been learning arm locks, chokes and ground holds these are some of the essential techniques you have to use if you want to be successful in grappling. We have seen some great rear naked chokes being applied in class epically from Max Thomas in the Friday class. We have seen some great potential from the Bushey classes so far.
The Friday class have been enjoying their lessons, they have been learning scarf holds and shoulder holds (in depth) so that once they get their opponent in one of these holds they can keep them there for the 25 seconds and win their round. In particular Mia Selvin has been doing great in class. Well done to everyone on the gradings it was spectacular to watch, you all pushed yourselves to the limit and didn’t want to give up which is what we want to see.
The teenagers are still working hard on learning their next syllabus to obtain their yellow belts. As summer has come around the classes have become quieter, as many of the students have gone away on holidays, but for those that turn up we have been going through some exciting self-defence techniques and team building exercises.
We have been doing this to try and get the class working together and also its fun for the class. Well done guys and keep up the good work and if you are going on holiday I hope you enjoy yourselves and I will see you when you return.
