This month the Bushey students have been getting ready for their first gradings of the year. All the kids have been working so hard and really enjoying their training, learning some exciting and fast throws which has gone down really well with everyone!
The Infant Class have been learning a wide range of basic throwing techniques, and also going over their basic hold downs as well. With all the students having fun learning the different take downs, we have been putting this in to different games. The throw that the kids are finding easiest to do when trying to take their partners down is the Front Double Leg Scoop. With the amount the kids have been throwing each other, they have become more confident with their breakfalls.
I cannot wait for the stand-up grappling as all the students have been pulling off some amazing throws and take downs of late. With the throws being one part of the grading, we have also been focusing on their basic ground holds. This has been going down really well. We have been helping the students with their grappling, with the basic Scarf Hold being one of the fastest holds. We have also been practicing side control and Shoulder Hold to the Mount. One student that has been showing a big improvement and exceptionally working hard other the past month is Theo Esteban-Wade. He has shown me true Ishin Ryu sprit and I am proud to make him Student of the Month.
The Junior Class have been getting on really well this month. With their stand- up grappling being a big part of training, they have been using their basic throws to get their partners down. Using some of their grading moves to take their partners down, the most popular throw that I have seen them try has been the Dropping Body Drop, which is a quick take down. All the students have been finding this a easy to do and it really is a lovely throw to watch when pulled off properly!
While the students have been learning stand-up grappling, we have incorporated this into a game, having a small ring with two students in the middle where they have to try and pin their partner down or throw them out of the ring. The game has gone down really well not just with the students, but with the mums and dads as well! I have had loads of fun grappling with the kids and I can tell the kids have loved the chance to fight back against their instructor! I am sorry to say that with everyone working so hard I can’t make the whole class Student of the Month! But there has been one student that has shown big improvements, and takes in everything that is shown. I am very proud to say Lauren Kelly is this February’s Student of the Month. Keep up the good work everyone and I look forward to the gradings next month!
