There is lots to report in this month’s Bushey Dojo Tuesday as both our both infant and junior classes have been getting ready for the 2nd Ishin Ryu family fun night. The event raises money for our chosen charity Hounds for Heroes and gives our parents the chance to come on the mat and train with their children.
I would like to say first of all a big well done to all the mums, dads and even granddads that came on the mat with the infant class to support the Ishin Ryu family fun night. It was a big hit with everyone who took part! We started off the lesson with a game of stuck in the mud to warm everyone up then moved on to some breakfalls to show mums and dads how well the kids have come along. We also gave them a chance to have a go at a side breakfall. We made sure throughout the session that the adults didn’t miss out on anything as they did everything that their children do in every lesson. We even made them do they do a nice big “OSU!!!” We split the lesson up to show the wide range of moves we teach – from holds off the floor to fitness exercises they have never done before and the adults loved it.
We finished off the lesson with some grappling to see if the parents could beat their children – everyone did so well especially the dad who had to grapple with two children. During October the infant class has also been working on our grading moves for next month and I know everyone is very excited to attempt their next colour belt.
In the junior class the kids have been learning some new moves for their next grading, with the yellow black belts working on chocks and locks from kneeling. The lower belts have been learning some nice throws and take downs to improve their stand up grappling. All of the students have really been enjoying all of the grappling and they are picking up some really nice clean throws and locks.
With the grading work on everyone’s minds it was nice to show some of the parents what they have been learning on the family fun night. The mums and dads had some idea what was going to happen but they did not know how fit and strong their little angels have become!
We started the lesson off with a nice easy game of zombies to warm everyone up. Once everyone was turned in to a zombie we moved on to some team games – adult’s vs children but who would win? This was very funny as we made all the adults do animal impressions down and back after each exercise. The kids had so much fun and so did I!
With the fitness and pain was over for the moment we moved on to some self- defence training. We started off with some wrist locks and finger locks then moved on to some chocks the kids can use when grappling with their mums and dads. To finish off the lesson we got all the kids and their parents on their knees and mixed some fitness with grappling and running around.
I would like to say a big well done to all the parents that came on to family nights and I can’t wait to see you back on the mat again very soon!
