Welcome to the Friday Bushey Dojo October 2014 Report and what a fantastic month we have had. I would just like to say well done to all the parents who came on to the mat for the family fun night – it was a brilliant turn out a it was all for a good cause. Well done and I look forward to the next one.
The infant class have shown a great attitude this month in order to prepare for the gradings that are fast approaching. The class have been learning two new throws that they will certainly be tested on these are the major outer reap and the knee wheel. Both are quite similar in that they begin face to face with the opponent and then involve stepping behind them and sweeping away a leg or collapsing one of their knees. Once these two throws were perfected technically and the students were able to increase the speed of their throws they were then able to learn how to do a side control following their opponent landing on the floor. This involves dropping down beside them and controlling their limbs from the side and keeping them on the floor. The class would then grab a quick drink before having several bouts of grappling with lots of different opponents. This was particularly useful as it would not only increase their stamina but also give all the students a chance to practise the side control in a more realistic environment.Lastly I would like to say that the infants parents which came on the mat for the first time, looked like they really enjoyed it and we had loads of positive feedback. Congratulations on taking part.
The Junior class have also upped their game to ensure they are fully prepared for their gradings and have been putting all their efforts into every class. The classes have begun with warm ups consisting of relay races in small teams that incorporated lots of running, press ups, sit ups and burpees. The children then demonstrated all of their breakfalls in order to ensure they were ready to learn some new throws. The new throws that we have learnt this month were the major outer reap and the knee wheel, which will both feature in the students’ next grading. These throws are quite different to those that the students would have tried before as they are performed face on to the opponent by tipping their weight and stopping their balance. Later on in the month, the students worked on follow up techniques to the throws including arm bars and collar chokes. The parents that took part with the family fun night figured out how hard we train. They got to try out some chokes and grappling holds, which they all enjoyed. Lastly which everyone was excited for was grappling. Parents started to struggle when fighting their children when they figured out how good they have become. It was a great night which was enjoyed by all. Well done to everyone.
The teenage class have shown excellent spirit this past month as we continue to prepare for their gradings. Each class has begun with a warm up and quick demonstration of all the students’ breakfalls particularly emphasising the front rolling breakfall picking up a weapon. Following this the students broke off into their syllabus groups in order to learn and practise the techniques they will be required to demonstrate in order to earn their next belts.
Towards the end of the lesson the students have been getting used to the grading environment and energy required. They would get into pairs and have several bouts of grappling and fitness tests and whilst demonstrating techniques in between. This is excellent practice at showing a technique with the necessary skill required whilst having tired bodies and minds. Lastly the teenager class brought their parents to class, and what a surprise they had, with grappling, fitness and some general self-defence where everyone got hot and sweaty. Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you for a fantastic night.
